Creating a brighter health outlook for millions of people

Avi was amongst the first entrepreneurs to explore the relationship between your genes, health and sporting performance.

Creating a brighter health outlook for millions of people, DNAfit is an award-winning personalised health and wellness company founded in 2013 by Avi Lasarow and acquired by global health-tech leader Prenetics in 2018.

Thinking Bigger than Ancestry

In 2013, consumer genetics testing was starting to catch on with the likes of 23andMe and Ancestry allowing people to explore their family tree and find relatives. But Avi was among the first to consider the application of genetics towards exercise and nutrition.

Genetics for sports performance

Avi and his team set out to explore whether a knowledge of your genetic traits could affect how you might train for a given sport or activity.

They examined responses to power vs. endurance training, aerobic trainability, recovery time and risk of injury. These factors, and the genetic profiles they were based on, would define the offer of DNAfit.

Genetics for nutrition

As DNAfit grew and the field of genetics expanded, a new commercial area was born: Nutrigenomics. This is the study of how the body responds to different nutrients and food types. The DNAfit test was able to evolve to encompass nutrition, allowing 100,000s of people to ‘eat for their genes’ and feel better about their body.

Market penetration

100,000s of people worldwide have taken a DNAfit test to improve their health. 100,000s more have uploaded genetic information from other tests including 23andMe and Ancestry to DNAfit to further explore their genetics for diet and exercise.

DNAfit, which was endorsed by Olympic Long Jump Champion Greg Rutherford and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, won two coveted Queen’s Awards for Enterprise and was acquired by global diagnostics testing company Prenetics in 2018.

Trusted by changemakers

I’ve always considered myself to just be purely speed and power! You know, after 45 metres of my run up and dead to the world. The DNAfit test proved that I did and that’s actually been a big aid in training. It’s helped reinforce the views and values that I had.
